What is Intern South Bay?

Intern South Bay is an 8-week paid summer internship program that connects college students with local employers for hands-on, career-connected work experience. Through strong partnerships with local employers in the South Bay Area, the program emphasizes mentorship, equitable access, and workforce readiness to support students’ successful transition into high-demand career pathways.

 

The mission of the Intern South Bay Program is to advance workforce equity by providing paid, mentored internship opportunities that increase career readiness, confidence, and economic mobility for college students.

Program goals include:

  • Bridging the gap between academic learning and real-world workplace experience
  • Expanding access to professional networks and career pathways, particularly for historically underserved students
  • Embedding mentorship and coaching throughout the internship experience
  • Strengthening transferable skills aligned with SBWIB workforce outcomes
  • Promoting inclusive, supportive, and equitable work environments
  • Supporting employers in building a diverse and prepared talent pipeline

Students who participate in Intern South Bay can expect:
✅ Paid internship opportunities (up to 20 hours per week).
✅ Professional development workshops covering resume building, interview techniques, workplace ethics, communication skills, and networking.
✅ Hands-on industry experience aligned with their career interests.
✅ Access to mentorship from professionals in their field.
✅ An opportunity to build a professional network and gain career insights.
✅ A closing recognition event with corporate partners and fellow interns.

Employers participating in Intern South Bay play a critical role in student development and workforce equity.

Mentor expectations include:

  • Providing a designated supervisor or mentor for the intern
  • Offering meaningful, skill-building work aligned with the intern’s learning goals
  • Meeting regularly with the intern to provide feedback and guidance
  • Supporting a welcoming, inclusive, and equitable workplace environment
  • Encouraging professional growth, confidence, and career awareness

 

📅 Duration: June 23 – August 18 (8 weeks)
⏳ Work Schedule: Up to 20 hours per week (based on employer needs)
💰  Paid Internship: 100% grant funded at no cost to the employer 
🏢 Placement: Students 

Professional Development & Workshops

Professional development workshops will be offered and are to be determined.

Details regarding workshop topics, format, and schedule will be shared with selected participants prior to the start of the program.
