Online Prerequisite Clearance Process

Are you coming to El Camino from another college/university and need to take a class to transfer back to your home school? We got you.

Online Prerequisite Clearance Process

The Online Prerequisite Clearance Form is a convenient way to have prerequisites cleared to register for specific classes for the upcoming semester.

So we may better serve you, please review the instructions and guidelines for the form.

New to College Students

If you are a new to college student enrolling after attending high school or have not complete prior college units and need English and Math clearances, first fill out the English and Math Placement survey, located on your MyECC account. This will help determine your placement.  If you have AP credits of 3 or higher, the score reports can be reviewed for possible clearance.  Click here for more information on the survey.

Transfer student from another college/university (taking a course to transfer back to your home university for one semester)

If you are taking a course for one semester and attend another college/university, you may use the Online Prerequisite Clearance Form for clearance.
If you are transferring to El Camino from another college/university and need your transcripts fully reviewed by a counselor, you can schedule a counseling appointment.

Please do not use the Online Prerequisite Form if you are trying to clear all prerequisites for entrance into a program (Nursing, Radiologic Technology, Respiratory Care, etc).  Your transcripts should be evaluated by appointment.

Terms to know when selecting classes to enroll in:

What is a Requisite?

Prerequisite: A condition students must meet to enroll in a course.

Corequisite: A course taken simultaneously to enroll in another course.

What is a Recommended Preparation?

A recommended, but not required, course taken with or before another course. You are able to enroll in any class with a Recommended Preparation.

Submitting the Prerequisite Clearance Form:

  1. Make sure you apply to El Camino College and receive your student ID number (7 numbers, no letters). If you previously applied for admissions and have not enrolled in two major terms (Fall and Spring) you must reapply.
  2. Fill out the form completely.
  3. Make sure that all attachments have your identifying information – name, student ID number, name of the college/university, etc. Clearances with incomplete documents will be delayed and/or denied. Screenshots of transcripts with missing information will be denied.
  4. If you are requesting a clearance and you are currently enrolled in the prerequisite class, you will need your instructor to forecast your grade (ECC Students) or ask your instructor to provide a letter stating that you will be passing the class. The instructor must include their name and contact information.
  5. Click the link to access the clearance form, or copy/paste into your web browser: https://elcamino.formstack.com/workflows/prerequisite_clearance_form

In general, prerequisite clearances sent during school holidays will be reviewed the next business day. During peak registration times, the review time can be 3-5 business days, or more.
