The Formerly Incarcerated Re-Entry Students Thriving (FIRST) Program and various community partners will have orientations, trainings, resources, and workshops aimed at assisting our campus in understanding the experiences of our FIRST Scholars while building our ally network!

The Formerly Incarcerated Re-Entry Students Thriving (FIRST) Program holds events and workshops throughout the respective semester. The FIRST team is excited to partner with The Breaking Bars Community Network to bring a 2-Day Liberating Scholars Educational Ally Training to El Camino College.

Diversity Apprenticeship Program (DAP) Workshop

Wednesday, December 1 | 9 - 10 a.m.

FIRST has partnered with (DAP) to present on the program which aims to increase the number of underrepresented groups in the art community. In this workshop, they will be going over what art handling is, more details about the program, and requirements to apply to DAP!

Prototypes/HealthRight 360 Workshop

Thursday, December 2 | 5:30 – 6:30 p.m.

FIRST is excited to partner with Rebecca M. Snyder, LCSW, and Andrew Mohamed, ACSW, from the Prototypes team to provide a workshop on mental health support through self-care, mindfulness and self-compassion.

Expungement Workshop

Thursday, December 2 | 5 – 6:30 p.m.

FIRST has partnered with Richard Ortiz, a former Retired Probation Officer and member of SRJC Second Chance Support Team, to provide an Expungement Workshop to any student, staff, faculty and community member who wants to know more about the expungement process.

Ten Toes In Workshop

Friday, December 3 | 5:30 – 6:30 p.m.

FIRST is excited to partner with Ten Toes In and present on resources to address the component of Intimate Relationships and Successful Reentry for the formerly incarcerated community. They will emphasize the importance of being a part of a Support Group and provide tools to be in a healthy relationship after incarceration.
