Application Period

Applications will open October 2026 for the Radiologic Technology program starting Spring 2027.

How to Apply

Review the following instructions prior to submitting your program application.

 

Read all the instructions on the Application Checklist to make sure you have completed all of the requirements.

 

New or returning students to El Camino College must complete the online application to receive a Student Identification Number and El Camino email.

Continuing students need not reapply.

Official transcripts for all college courses that are required for entrance into the Radiologic Technology Program must be on file with the El Camino Admissions & Records Office before an application can be filed.

How to Submit Transcripts

All official college transcripts from regionally accredited institutions MUST be submitted directly to El Camino College Admissions & Records.

You will be asked to upload all transcripts into the online application so please request a copy sent to yourself, as well. This includes all courses taken at El Camino College.

All prerequisites and other courses as specified on the Course Evaluation Worksheet must be completed. 

Notes:

  • For any course in which a grade of “C” or better was earned, the last course grade will be utilized.
  • All required course work must be completed with a “C” or better to be eligible for credit on the application, but at least 2 courses should be completed with a grade of “B” or better, to meet the minimum requirement of GPA of 2.25 to file an application.

 

You will need these items to upload to your online application:

  • Photo Identification Card: California Driver’s License (CDL) or state-issued ID card 
  • El Camino College Student ID card (if you have one)
  • Cover Letter (1 page)
  • Resume (1 page)
  • Transcripts for All Prerequisite Courses: Unofficial transcripts are allowed.

Documents Format:

  • Picture IDs and driver licenses can be image files.
  • Please save and upload all other documents in a PDF format. You can use apps like AdobeScan or MS Office Lens to create a PDF file from your phone.
  • If documents are submitted in Word, ZIP or any other file format, points will be deducted.

 

How to Earn Points

GPA = Point Value

 

  • GPA 4.0 = 25 points
  • GPA 3.5 = 20 points
  • GPA 3.0 = 15 points
  • GPA 2.5 = 10 points

  • Below 2.5 = Not eligible

The counselors will review your transcripts to ascertain your GPA, and any additional points for extra coursework taken.

 

Additional Enrichment Courses for Extra Points Consideration:

  • Communication Studies: Com 1 (100), 3(140), 4(120) or 12(130) (2 points)
  • Anatomy 30 (or equivalent) (2 points)
  • First Aid -1 (2 points)
  • FTEC- 144 (EMT Course) (3 points with the Course Completion Certification / 1.5 pts without the Certification)
    • EMT Certification/Licensure is applied for after the completion of the FTEC 144 course
    • Nutrition 110
    • ALH 500, 501, 502

Must have a B or better grade in the course to get the points.

Recommended (but NO extra points on application)

  • ESL 51 B, 51 C & NESL10– (For ESL Student Communication)
  • BLS- CPR Certificate (AHA/ARC) – is required for clinical attendance
 

Academic Degrees or Military Experience

 

Degrees Earned

  • MA/MS, BA/BS or higher degree (4 points) (Completed and posted on transcript or copy of Degree provided)
  • AA/AS degree (3 points)
  • (Completed and posted on transcript or letter from records office verifying completion for AA/AS)

American Veteran (3 points)

  • Copy of Defense Department Form 214 (DD 214) Honorable Discharge required

Must upload copy of degree or proof on transcript

 

Certificates of Completion

  • Limited XT (X-ray Tech) (5 points)
  • LVN, RN, EMT, MD or other
    Health Care occupations (1- 4 points)
    Maximum 2 certificates allowed or 9 points total

Licensed or certificated healthcare worker requires a copy of your current California certificate including your certificate number, date of issue and date of expiration to be included in the application packet.

For Military Medical Tech (Medic) - Copy of Certificate issued by Armed Forces division – within
past 5 years.

Points vary due to amount of time needed to obtain education for Certificate (Example: 1 semester course for EMT vs 1 – 2 years for nursing or other health related care area)

Health Work Experience

Limited Radiologic Technician (XT) (3-6 points)

  • Work experience  > 1000 hours (6 points)
  • 601 – 1000 hours (4 points)
  • 300 - 600 hours (3 points)

Other Health Occupations (direct patient care)

(3-7 points)

  • Detail the type of work in the letter
    work experience with direct patient care.
  • Work experience > 1000 hrs (5 points)
  • 500 – 999 hours (3 points)
  •  
  • *Hospital patient transporter with a minimum of 300 hours worked, with proof-- additional 2 points

Proof of Work Experience: (All information below must be included in the letter to receive the points)

  • Letter from current/former employee verifying employment.
  • The letter must be on organizational letterhead with an original signature and must include applicant’s name, start date and end date, employee status (full-time/part-time), number of hours worked per week, total hours from/to date, job title, and examples of duties including type of patient interaction.
  • Experience must be within the last 4 years – specific type of work will determine point values. If letterhead not available, attach business card of person writing letter.

Work Experience

Credit for working or volunteering while
attending college (working 16 hours/week with 6 units).

  • Experience must have been within the last 4 years.
  • If you have maintained employment or volunteered at least 16 hours per week while attending college taking at least 6 units in the past 4 years.
    • Proof would be a letter from current/former employee verifying
      employment - must be on organizational letterhead with an original signature and must include applicant’s name, start date and end date, employee status (full-time/part-time), number
      of hours worked per week and total hours from/to date.
  • If you are unable to obtain a letter from your employer, then include a note why you could not get a letter, along with copies of paycheck stubs for that time period.
    • Blackout personal info like income and SSN)
  • If self-employed, a notarized letter will be accepted.
  • Your resume should also reflect your education and work history.
  • **You must also include a copy of your transcripts with the application to show that you were taking at least 6 units while working.

Other Health Care Occupations

  • >500 hours (2 points)
  • Experience must be within the last 4 years
  • Submit a certificate or letter on letterhead verifying employment.
  • The letter must include original signature, applicant’s name, start and end date, number of hours worked per week, examples of duties including and total number of hours worked. 

 

Volunteer/Observation Hours

 

 

  • Direct Patient Care Volunteer Expeience
  • 200 hours- 1 pt
  • 201-400 hours- 2 pts
  • 401-600 hours- 3 pts

Indirect Patient Care Volunteer Experience

400 hours-- 1 pt

401-600 hours-- 2 pts

Experience must be within the last 4 years

 

  • Community Service Documentation (letter or certificate) of participation in a Volunteer / Service Learning  environment. 
  • The letter/certificate must include original signature, applicant’s name, start and end date, total number of hours  volunteered and examples of volunteer duties.

Radiologic Technology (RT) Program

Clinical Experience (1-2 points)

  • >1000 hours (2 points)
  • 500 – 1000 hours (1 point)

Courses (1-2 points)

  • Intro Courses or Program courses will be evaluated by the Program Director for additional points on application
  • Must have completed at least 12 units with a B or better

Previous Radiologic Technology Program Experience:

  • For applicants previously admitted in the ECC or other RT Program, applicant must submit a self-evaluation letter describing reasons for leaving program and what steps have been taken to ensure success if applicant is admitted into the ECC RT Program.
  • The Program Director must verify the number of clinical hours completed by providing a letter documenting attendance in program, number of clinical hours completed, and reasons for leaving the program early.
  • Only students in GOOD STANDING will be given additional points.
  • Per the ARRT Code of Ethics, students
    who have been dismissed from a program due to ethics violations such as patient safety/radiation safety,
    may not be eligible to be admitted into another program.
  • Background and/or ARRT clearance may be required.
  • For Rad Tech Course evaluation, a copy of transcripts from the institution must be included with the application for credit.

  • Must meet all requirements: professional appearance, letters signed, writing skill, clarity, grammar, spelling and organization will be reviewed and ranked.

Within 24 hours of submitting your application, please do the following:

Immunizations are required for your clinical placement and campus attendance.  

If you choose not to get vaccinated, you cannot be placed a clinical site.

Flu Vaccine: If you are accepted into the program, you will be required by both the college and the clinical sites to have the flu shot. Please retain copies of the proof of vaccination prior to beginning the program.

COVID-19 Vaccine: If you are accepted into the program, you must be vaccinated from COVID-19 to enter the clinical sites for clinical training. The clinical sites will require proof of vaccination that you must provide no later than January 2027. 

 

  • No late applications will be accepted. 
  • Do not wait until the last day to file the application.
  • If you are having technical difficulties, or we are unable to open your documents,  your application may not be reviewed.
  • If you are having problems uploading your application, make sure your documents are not too large and in a PDF format.
  • The student ID and CDL can be uploaded in an image format (not PDF).  
  • Check that ALL boxes have been filled out correctly.  
  • You can also try clearing out your cache files and browser history. You should be using Chrome or Microsoft Edge.

 

After the Application Period

Notifications of acceptance will be made by the end of November. Accepted students must attend the mandatory orientation sessions in December (1 day) and at the end of January (2 days). If you do not attend all 3 days of orientation, your seat in the program will be given to the next qualified applicant.
